Why bamboo fibre?

  • Less plastic waste.
  • Completely vegan.
  • Can go in the washing machine over and over again.
  • Produced in closed circuit conditions to prevent pollution.
  • Bamboo is a highly sustainable material. It grows quickly and uses minimal resources as it grows organically.

Packaging

  • We use zero waste packaging for all UK and EU orders.

What are the dimensions of the bamboo dishcloth?

  • 22.5cm x 18cm

How do I dispose of the dishcloth once it reaches the end of its life?

  • Bamboo fibre can be composted and is biodegradable.
  • While growing, the bamboo removes carbon dioxide from the environment and additionally Plastic Phobia offset the carbon emissions of shipping the product. This makes the bamboo dishcloth thoroughly eco-friendly.

Do these dishcloths smell bad?

  • No, unlike most eco-friendly dish washing products, bamboo dishcloths do not smell.
  • Bamboo dishcloths are a reliable and high quality alternative to standard dishcloths that will stand the test of time.

How to wash a bamboo dishcloth?

  • Put it in the washing machine at 30 degrees Celsius.

What’s wrong with microfibre dishcloths?

  • Microfibre dishcloths are 100% plastic.
  • Natural gas is used to spin the plastic into a fabric.
  • Millions of microplastics come off the fabric while it is in use.
  • These plastics infect our waterways and enter food chains in the ocean.

What’s wrong with cotton dishcloths?

  • Cotton is an extremely thirsty plant, it requires huge quantities of water to grow.
  • 20,000 litres of water is needed to grow 1kg of cotton.
  • As it’s such a popular crop, farmers are forced to grow cotton in areas that get little rainfall. This requires irrigation, diverting water from rivers, which has had devastating effects on the environment.
  • In the 1960’s the Aral Sea was one of the biggest lakes in the world but now it is a desert, a direct consequence of cotton production.
  • Production of cotton takes up 24% of the worlds pesticide use.

What about organic cotton?

  • Organic cotton still uses naturally derived chemicals to process and dye the material.
  • Growing cotton organically uses more than twice as much water.

But isn’t bamboo grown organically?

  • Bamboo grows so quickly without fertilisers, in a wide range of conditions, that it doesn’t need chemicals.
  • Using fertilisers would not be profitable for the farmers so most bamboo is grown organically.

How will my purchase make a difference?

  • Save thousands of litres of water and prevent microplastics getting into our drinking water. A bamboo dishcloth is the eco-friendly alternative!
